Manor Road Pre-school was founded by Mary Wheeler in the 1960s. Back then, there were only 12 children per session and the staff worked without pay for the first year to enable them to purchase equipment for the children! Many of the staff over the years have been Mums of children at Pre-school which has helped us to maintain a family-like atmosphere.
Our sessions are held in the URC Hall and daily activities include construction, painting and craft, small world play, home corner, dress up and role play, musical instruments, cooking, puzzles and mathematical pursuits (amongst many others). We also have a dedicated outdoor space (with bikes, ride-ons, hoops, stilts, parachutes (to name a few) that is used most days even during the Winter months.
The Pre-school Session times are:
Monday – 9am until 12 noon, 12.15 to 3.15pm or 9 am until 3.15pm
Tuesday – 9am until 12 noon
Wednesday – 9am until 12 noon, 12.15 to 3.15pm or 9am until 3.15pm
Thursday – 9am until 12 noon, 12.15 to 3.15pm or 9am until 3.15pm
Friday – 9am until 12 noon
We currently accept up to 28 children per session from 2 years up until School age.
Pre-school fees are £14 per session (there is an additional £3 charge for lunchtime cover if children stay all day). Fees are payable weekly or termly in advance. We are Ofsted registered and receive funding for all children after their 3rd birthday (not the term they are 3). We are also able to receive Free for 2 funding.
We provide snacks for the children during their session. They have a choice of fruit and vegetables, milk and water. Children staying for the whole day should bring a packed lunch.
The Pre-school is committee run made up of volunteers (mostly made up of parents with children attending the Pre-school).
The committee is responsible for:
Supporting the Manager/Deputy Manager in areas such as personnel and finance
Ensuring the Pre-school has up to date policies and adheres to them, maintaining a high standard at all times and
Making sure that the Pre-school works in partnership with the children’s parents
We very much depend on the goodwill of parents and their involvement with the Pre-school. Without the committee, the Pre-school would not be able to operate and would have to close.
For more information on the Manor Road Pre-school Committee and the next fundraising events see our news and events page.
We will hold our Summer Cake Sale on Friday 17 July. All the money raised at this event will go to buying new play kitchen equipment for the Pre-school's play kitchen.
